Athabasca Falls Stairs and Walkways

At Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park, a well-maintained network of stairs and walkways allows visitors to safely experience the power and beauty of the falls from multiple viewpoints.

Athabasca Falls Stairs

Stone and metal staircases guide you between upper and lower sections of the falls. These stairs provide access to deeper canyon viewpoints and river-level platforms. They are designed to be safe and durable, even in spring when surfaces may be wet or slippery from meltwater spray. Some stair sections are steep but short, with railings and level landings to rest.

Walkways at Athabasca Falls

Paved and gravel paths weave through the forested area and along the riverbanks. Fenced concrete platforms offer stunning views directly over the roaring falls.
Upper Falls Lookout: View the broad river funnel into the chasm.
Narrow Canyon Overlooks: Peer into potholes and carved rock walls.
Lower Falls Viewpoints: Catch the full drop of the water after it exits the canyon.

Safety Features at Athabasca Falls

High guardrails and fences are installed along all exposed edges. Numerous warning signs remind visitors to stay on designated paths. Surfaces can be wet due to mist and runoff - especially in spring - so proper footwear is advised. Hiking Athabasca Falls
