Athabasca Falls Walls and Fences for Safety

Athabasca Falls Walls and Fences for Safety

Athabasca Falls Walls and Fences for Safety

Do not climb over walls and fences at Athabasca Falls—these barriers are there for your safety. The walls, railings, and fences throughout the site mark the safe zones, beyond which lie steep cliffs, slick rocks, and fast-moving water that can become deadly in seconds. Climbing over them puts you at serious risk of slipping into the canyon or being swept away by the powerful current.

The temptation to get a "better photo" or a closer look is common, but the consequences have proven fatal in the past. Even confident hikers or experienced explorers have misjudged the terrain and paid with their lives. The rocks can crumble unexpectedly, and the river’s undercurrents are strong enough to overpower anyone.

Respecting the barriers is a vital part of responsible tourism in Jasper National Park. Everyone shares the same goal: to admire the power of nature safely. Let the fences protect you—and help preserve the park for future visitors. Hiking Athabasca Falls
